What requirements do you need to meet to sell under this category?
Thousands of companies entered Amazon in 2020 to sell their private label supplements. You can imagine how many beginners there were, and still are, venturing into this category.
Amazon has an extensive list of rules and regulations to follow when it comes to selling dietary supplements. An application will be required from your seller central account to receive approval.
First things first, you MUST have a professional seller account. You can review their plans here: (Seller Plans) but choose the professional plan (trust us, there are so many benefits.) The following includes the information you will need to submit to Amazon for approval:

1. At least 1 purchase invoice for products from a manufacturer or distributor that contain the following information:
  • Dated within 180 days of submitting your application.
  • Includes your name and address, matching the information in your seller account.
  • Include the name and address of the manufacturer or distributor.
  • Show the combined purchase of at least 10 units.
2. Certificate of Analysis (COA)from an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory for each dietary supplement you are      applying to list. CoA must contain the following information:
  • Product name
  • Batch/lot number or date code of product.
  • Name and address of the manufacturer or distributor.
  • Quantitative analysis to support the active ingredient concentration as claimed on supplement facts panel.
  • The active ingredient name on supplement facts panel should match the active ingredient name on the CoA.
  • The concentration units on the supplement facts panel (i.e. mcg/mg) should match the unit of measure on CoA.
 3. You must submit photo proof of the products you are intending to sell, containing the following requirements:
  • Have all sides of the product label visible, including batch/lot number or date code.
  • Have a clear image of the supplemental or nutritional fact panel, and ingredient list.
  • Contain the name and address of the business or manufacturer.
  • Contain the product name or model number.
  • Are live images rather than stock or generated images.

4. Letter of Guarantee and Invoice – A letter of guarantee from the manufacturer of the product that meets the following requirements:
  • Is on the official manufacturer letterhead.
  • Contains complete product name as listed on label, and labeling.
  • Assurance that the product is manufactured under current Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Assurance that only lawful and safe, as defined in section 402 (f) of the FD&C Act, ingredients are utilized.
  • Assurance that concentration of active ingredient(s) as stated on the label and labeling is safe for consumption.
Once you have all of the information and images listed, apply!

Once you receive approval, these are the rules and regulations you MUST follow:

  • The ingredients list
  • The name and address of the manufacturer, packer or distributor
Written content cannot state that the supplement cures, treats, mitigates, or prevents a disease in humans, unless that statement is approved by the FDA (documents will be required.) Labels also cannot state “tester,” “not for retail sale,” or “not intended for resale.”
3. Detail Page
Detail pages must include the dietary supplement’s name, the ingredient list, and an image of the product label’s ingredient list. Detail pages must not state that the products cure, mitigate, treat, or prevent a disease in humans, unless the FDA approves that statement. Detail pages must not state that the supplements are “FDA approved.” You also cannot include any disease names in any keywords. Images associated with detail pages must not include the FDA logo.
4. Products & Ingredients

Supplements must be safe for use and must not be a product that the FDA has determined presents an unreasonable risk of injury or illness. Supplements must not be named by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as making untrue marketing claims.
Follow these guidelines and start selling!
COVID has shined a light on dietary supplements and vitamins. In a way, it has made more individuals more health conscious than they were before. Not only that, the beginning of any year is a great time to sell these products!
Overall, remember that you are selling supplements to an individual that will be consuming them. Give them as much beneficial information and key features as possible to help them make their purchase decision and eventually repurchase. Satisfaction is key in this category, just as much as following Amazon’s Compliance Guidelines!
